Sanity Space - Advent Tree - PART 2

Welcome to the second week of  Christmas bauble hunting! If you read last weeks post (Part 1)  you will know that  I originally made this little advent tree for my son some years ago.   Last week we went through the first six ornaments and scriptures depicting some of the names and attributes of Christ.  This week we are on to the next 7 .... off we go...

Day 7. Redeemer
The Redeemer was anointed to bind up the broken–hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison(key?) to them that were bound (D&C 138:42)

Ornament: Key

Day 8. Creator
Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, The creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. (Isaiah 40:28 - 29)

Ornament: Clear glass bauble with a world inside

For this ornament I bought a clear bauble with some silver stars already inside. The top came off very easily and I found a picture of the world, printed it on flimsy card and rolled it up to insert in to the bauble. I then flattened it out with chop sticks!

Day 9. Man of Sorrow
He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrow, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. (Isaiah 53:3 - 5)

Ornament : TEAR DROP

Day 10. Word, Messenger of Salvation

Therefore, in the beginning the Word was, for he was the Word, even the Messenger of Salvation— The light and the Redeemer of the world; the Spirit of truth, who came into the world, because the world was made by him, and in him was the life of men and the light of men. The worlds were made by him; men were made by him; all things were made by him, and through him, and of him. (D&C 93:8 - 10)

Ornament: A WORD ( NOEL)

Day 11. Good shepherd
I am the good Shepherd : the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. (John 10:11 - 14)

Ornament: Candy Cane

Day 12. Faithful and True

And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. (Revelation 19:11 - 16)

Ornament: White horse

Day 13. Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)

Ornament: PEACE DOVE

I just love all the names of Christ in this weeks batch but I particularly like the "tear drop" for "man of sorrows"Whenever I look at it, I remember how he understands my trials and heartaches perfectly because he took upon himself (via the atonement)... not only everyone's sin, but also everyone's weakness, heartache, pain and sorrow. I am so grateful  for the knowledge, that when we feel like no one understands  (times we all have)...there is one who really does!

How are you getting on with your hunt for decorations? Remember that you can buy them or make them yourself,  OR have a mixture of the two like I have.   Let me know how you get on with collecting your advent ornaments.  Also why not tweet me @jade_biesinger with your pictures.. or come visit me on Henibean on Facebook
I'd love to see what you have chosen and how you are doing.

Until next week...

  1. What a wonderful project! I love the way you have paired up the names and attributes of Christ with ornaments. In the past I have done a Jesse tree for Christmas--the ornaments traced the coming of Christ from the Garden of Eden to Bethlehem.

  2. Hi carol the Jesse tree sounds a great idea. I would love to see some photos of it if you get the chance to drop by on the henibean Facebook page
    Thanks for dropping by. Jx

  3. How great that you're doing this at home! For this first time I'm also doing a Names of Christ advent devotional with my family starting Dec 1st. I'm actually giving away 2 free copies of it if you or anyone else is interested in entering to win!

  4. I found your names of Christ encouraging and they strengthen our faith in Jesus the Savior who was sent by God to be born of a Virgin and according to God's plan to be the sacrifice for all mankind (He is Available to live IN us, for all who receive Him.) Sorry I am so late in reading your shared post . I do so much appreciate your entries with us here at Tell me a True Story.

  5. I absolutely LOVE this idea!!!

With a new precious granddaughter who will be nine months old for her first Christmas, I am excited to start special traditions for her and I. This advent Christmas tree and ornament is wonderful! Kids and adults alike are able to retain so much by "assigning" an object to that memory, like you have with the meaningful ornaments.

    Thanks so much for sharing!!

  6. I love your idea of an Advent tree! Such a lovely visual reminder! I'm visiting from Coffee For Your Heart

  7. What a neat project! I've never seen one like this before. Love the idea, and although my kids are grown, it makes me want to create one. Enjoying the visit today from #testimonyTuesday.

  8. I think the clear glass bubble with the world inside is my favorite. Love the concept/message.
